Mp3it.com part of TheExperiment Network is an all free mp3 resource that is trying to set up a future information distribution system. Our society is converting from an atomic based society where information can be controlled by tangeble means (i.e. compact discs, books, video, etc) to a digital/bit based society where information does not take a physical form. This shift, we hope and feel, can be used to enliven humanity on an epoch- like scale.

The artist's true value is that they act as a compass for society, providing direction and the tools necessary for the development of new realities based on a working knowledge of there environment. Their creations, which generally and quite often gets turned into commodity, is an "idea", a "grand notion" which can't ultimately be contained, or restrained, and is in fact rather non-tangeable, and unbounded in the "purist's sense", in every way. We feel that the current social systems do not allow for purity to exist, and because of the ever growing availability of newly aquired tools, we have a chance now, to make a change happen, to create an impact.

We think that the main-stream perspectives towards music, has become extremely warped in the last 70-100 years and perhaps even since before. With the technology of the recorded medium and in part owing to the modern ways of society (capital systems, market places, information transfer) music turned from a cultural, spiritual, personal situation to a sort of commodity, an exploit rather than an advent. Music used to have much more importance to individuals, situations, etc instead of merely propagating the current idea that music is itself just entertainment. Remember, you had to either play instruments yourself or go see a performance, to experience music. Knowing that society needs to move on and in trying not, to back track into an unrealistic 'return to nature' approach, we want to propose a new perspective. The "third culture, post post-modernism", basically the advancement of human interaction and it's relationship to our environment. We have very few tools to perpetuate human interaction. We, however, do believe that a very powerful tool is music. Music has many assets which communicate personal ideas, cultural ideas and a wide variety of feelings*, emotions* and much more advanced concepts.

If you look at music/art historically it always reflects the societies problems. We're at a cross roads of sorts where we need new tools to be able to go forward in evolution. Hopefully being able to learn from the old and new. Turn our minds around to be able to think in new ways, in terms of advancement, of evolution, and of interacting in a progressive thought provoking way.
